National Institute for Open Schooling (NIOS)

NIOS is “Open School” to cater to the needs of a heterogeneous group of learners up to pre-degree level. It was started as a project with in-built flexibilities by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 1979. NIOS provides Secondary (equivalent to CBSE X) Senior Secondary (equivalent to CBSE XII) open schooling programs to bring back the school drop outs or unqualified students back to the mainstream education. NIOS qualifications are approved by all the Universities including Medical & Engineering Councils in India and major universities abroad as a qualifying certification.
